Reporting to the Supervisor, Learning & Development the Instructional Designer is a creative, tech-savvy learning professional who is responsible for creating and modifying training materials to support learner’s performance goals at Kal Tire. The Instructional Designer will work in collaboration with members of the Human Resources team and subject matter experts (SMEs) to build, update and re-write learning content for numerous delivery types, including face-to-face instruction, e-learning, live virtual training and social learning. The Instructional Designer will help identify areas of existing learning programs where performance can be improved and make changes based on adult learning methodology.
Develop e-Learning Content
Uses storyboards and design documents to develop formal and informal electronic learning materials that meets industry best practices in design and learning quality
Assists with filming/recording of video/audio content and edits files to produce deliverables such as learning modules, tutorials, podcasts, etc.
Creates animation segments using GoAnimate (or comparable software) to produce scenario based learning
Develops monthly Health and Safety e-Learning modules using safe work procedure documents and subject matter experts
Create & Edit Learning Content
Writes learning objectives and ensures course content matches intended outcomes
Through first-hand experience, learns internal computer systems to effectively write user training materials (TSS, Salesforce, Appointment Scheduler, etc.)
Works with classroom instructors to evaluate training content on ongoing basis, make changes to course content based on changes in business needs.
Creates or edits participant and instructor manuals, activities, quick reference materials
Updates and maintains print and electronic support materials including SharePoint Learning Portals, Team Enhancement Binder, Team Handbook, Store Operations Manual, etc.
Administer Learning Management System (LMS)
Uploads and tests e-learning modules in LMS
Provides support to LMS Administrator
Runs reports to determine course completion results
Minimum of 3 years’ experience creating corporate learning materials, including at least two years developing e-learning using authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Lectora, or similar tools
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of adult learning methods with ability to incorporate into solid instructional design practices
Strong written and verbal communication skills – excellent spelling and grammar, strong editorial skills, and a keen eye for accuracy and detail.
Experience with animation applications, such as Vyond (GoAnimate), Unity, or equivalent
Experience editing videos and screencasts using Camtasia, Screenflow, or equivalent
Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office suite, comfortable with PowerPoint, Word, and Publisher
Experience using graphic design and image editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent
Ability to write clear technical/procedural training in print and electronic (wiki, web page) formats
Knowledge of SharePoint and Office 365, with the ability to create learning portals, online discussion forums, etc.
Highly organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Certificate in Instructional Design and/or curriculum development, or British Columbia Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) certificate (or equivalency)
Certified Training Professional (CTP or CTDP) designation from the Institute for Performance and Learning (preferred)
Ability to periodically travel occasionally will be required.
Must have own transportation and a valid BC driver’s license.
