Virginia Tech is proud to be a global land grant university. While the main campus is in a rural setting in Blacksburg, Virginia, the university also has center locations in urban areas such as the National Capital Region near Washington, D.C., international locations such as Riva San Vitale, Switzerland and research operations in over 50 countries around the world.
The main campus includes residential halls, classroom buildings, research space, athletic facilities, an airport, a rock quarry, a power plant, a research farm, a corporate research park, and many other facilities. In nearby Roanoke, the university has partnered with Carilion Clinic to open the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute.
Adjacent to campus, is Virginia Tech’s Corporate Research Park. This park was recently ranked the #1 research park in America. It is currently home to over 180 research, technology, and support companies and employs over 3000 employees. An expansion is planned that will provide space for another 15 buildings in addition to the 33 tenant buildings currently on-site.
